hello! for those of you who don't know me, my name is monica and i am the founder of berlin skin. the launch of this brand has been such an amazing, successful journey...thanks to all of you who are following along and supporting.
so, how's your skin feeling this summer? mine has definitely taken some time to adjust to the warmer climate. and strangely enough, my overly-oily skin has been considerably dry. it seems by the time i have my skin figured out during one season, a new season is among us. you feel my frustration?
but alas, dear friend, i am sharing some of my top tips to not only survive, but to thrive this season and achieve that beautiful summer glow.
1. don't be afraid of that vitamin d!
i know, i know-some people are going to totally disagree with me on this one, and i'm okay with that. let me say this: i wear spf 15 on my face every single day (the sun is one of the main causes of wrinkles). but i don't shy away from a little bit of sunshine, and my skin looks it's best when i'm getting my daily dose. i'm a big believer that we need a certain amount (limit is dependent on your individual needs) of direct sunlight every single day (and study after study backs this up). most americans are vitamin d deficient, and the sun is the best way for your body to get what it's craving. my advice is to go on a brisk walk (15-30 min) in the morning before 10am or after 6pm. bonus: it will give you a nice mental boost, too!
2. drink water.
i'm sure you've heard this a thousand times, but it's true. many of us are terribly dehydrated and we don't even realize it. i like to drink tea throughout the day to help increase my water intake.
3. nurture, don't harm.
don't strip your skin of it's natural oils-even if you have oily skin! this is one of the worst things you can do (in any season), and it's a habit we should all stop immediately. this may seem counterintuitive when you are sweating it out on those super hot days, but trust me, don't do it. it will only create confusion for your skin and your glands will try to over-compensate, thus creating more oil than it needs, which can lead to new breakouts. plus, stripping your skin creates dryness which can cause pre-mature aging, and no one wants that for you. take a hard look at the ingredients in your products-specifically your cleanser. does it contain any ingredients with the word "sulfate" in it? if so, throw it out.
these are just some of my quick tips for glowing summer skin; only scratching the surface. every person's skin journey is different, and remember to always listen to your body-it will tell you what it needs!
